Truth That Needs Time to Settle

February 12

Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:21

Some truths land quickly. Others do not.

Some words from God are immediately clear and actionable. Others feel slower, and more demanding of our patience. James reminds us that God’s Word is not simply spoken to be heard, but it is to be planted, and anything planted needs time.

We often want truth to work instantly. To change us immediately. To resolve questions and produce clarity, but on our terms. Scripture invites a different posture, one of humility. A willingness to receive what God is doing within us, even when we cannot yet see the fruit just yet.

The Word of God does not force its way in. It is planted intentionally, and deeply. And like any seed, its growth is mostly unseen at first. It settles into the soil of our hearts, reshaping our thinking, softening our responses, and forming something new in us over time.

In this Selah season, we are being reminded that transformation is not rushed. Truth needs space, quiet time and trust. And it needs us to resist the urge to move on before God’s Word has done its deeper work.

Today is an invitation to allow what God has already shown you to settle further. To trust that His Word is alive and active, even when the change we hope for feels slow. And to remember that growth often happens beneath the surface before it becomes visible.

Truth that saves is not always truth that hurries. Often, it is truth that patiently takes root.

Prayer

Father God,
Teach us to receive Your Word with humility and patience. Help us to trust the work You are doing within us, even when we cannot yet see the outcome.

Give us the grace to wait, to listen, and to allow Your truth to take root in our hearts.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
