Trust Is Learned Over Time

February 13

In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength.
Isaiah 30:15

Trust rarely arrives all at once.

Most of us would like it to. We would like trust to appear fully formed in moments of pressure or decision.

Scripture tells a more patient story. Trust is learned over time, shaped through repeated choices to return to God rather than rush ahead without Him.

As we remember, Isaiah speaks these words to a people who were anxious to act, eager to secure their future through their own plans and alliances. God’s invitation to them was gentle, repentance and rest, quietness and trust. Not striving. Not urgency. Not control.

Trust grows slowly because it is relational. It is formed as we learn, again and again, that God is faithful. It deepens as we discover that waiting does not weaken us, it strengthens us. And it matures us as we resist the urge to rely on our own solutions when fear presses in.

In this Selah moment, we are reminded that trust is not proven at pace, but in the stillness. It is not strengthened by noise, but by quiet confidence in who God is. Often, the most faithful response is simply to remain, to rest, and to let God be God.

Today is not a test of how much you trust Him. It is an invitation to let trust continue its work within you. Slowly, but surely, over time.

Prayer

Father God,
Teach us to trust You in quietness and rest. Help us to lay down our striving and to learn patience as You form trust within us.

As we pause, strengthen us in Your presence and prepare us for what lies ahead.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
