Selah: Pause and Remember

February 9 - Scripture

Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

Today we begin something a little different.

It’s not a new discussion, a new idea or a new direction.

We will take a pause.

The word Selah appears throughout the Psalms, often at moments of weight, emotion, or truth. It says to us, stop rushing around for a moment. Pause and let what has been said sink in, more than surface or mind level and let it soak into your heart, into the core of your being.

Over the past month we have walked slowly through Isaiah 1–39. We have wrestled with trust, fear, misplaced confidence, and the limits of the human heart.

We have seen kings rise and fall. We have learned, sometimes uncomfortably, that belief alone is not the same as trust, and that even our best intentions cannot save us.

That is a lot to take in.

Psalm 46 was written in a time of upheaval, when nations were in turmoil and the very foundations were shaking. Yet right in the middle of that chaos came this invitation, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Not move faster. Figure it out yourself. Hurry up and do more, but:

Be still.

Stillness here is not about being passive, it is about surrender. It is the quiet confidence that comes from trusting that God is still God, even when our understanding feels incomplete and our questions remain unanswered.

Today then is an invitation to remember.

To look back again over the days and weeks that you have been reading. To think again and recall the moments that spoke to you, unsettled you, or brought clarity.

Taking a moment to notice where God has already been speaking to you.

No need to resolve everything or move on. No need to completely understand it all or to have neat and tidy conclusions.

This Selah moment is about creating space for gratitude, for reflection, and for God to continue His work in us.

As we pause, we prepare. We don’t strive, but we listen. We don’t rush ahead, we allow what God has already shown us to take root.

So today, be still. And remember. God is not finished yet.

Prayer

Father God,

Today we pause before You. We thank You for what You have already shown us and for the ways You have been speaking to our hearts.

Help us to be still and to remember that You are God, present and at work even when the way ahead is not always clear.

As we rest in this Selah moment, prepare us for what comes next. Teach us to listen to you, to trust, and to wait on you with gratitude.

We place ourselves again in Your care.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
