He Loves Us Because We Belong to Him

Living in Love

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.
— 1 John 4:16 (NLT)

Break It Down

John begins not with instruction, but with assurance. ‘We know how much God loves us’ speaks of lived experience, not abstract belief. When John says ‘God is love,’ he reveals God’s very nature. Love is not simply something God does; it is who He is.

What Is Love?

Biblical love is not merely emotion or affection. It is self-giving, faithful, and rooted in action. God’s love moves toward us, stays with us, and holds us even when it costs.

Why Does God Love Us?

God does not love us because we have earned it. He loves us because we belong to Him. From creation to redemption, Scripture shows a God who pursues relationship.

Living in Love

To live in love is to remain connected to the God who is love. As we abide in Him, fear loosens its grip and grace shapes our responses to others.

Application for Today

Receive God’s love today as a gift, not a reward. Let His love shape how you see yourself and how you move toward others.

Prayer

God of love, thank You that Your love flows from who You are, not from what I do. Help me trust Your love and live from it today. Amen.

Reflection

• What has shaped your understanding of love?
• Where is God inviting you to trust His love more deeply?
• How might living from God’s love change the way you relate to others?
