When You Cry Out
Phase 3 – Grace as the Means
God hears and responds. His arm is not weak
Passage: Isaiah 51:9–16
“I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?” Isaiah 51:12 NLT

Reflection
“Awake, awake, arm of the Lord…” Now the voice changes. Before, God was speaking. Now the people are. And this matters because at least they are responding.
They are not silent or disengaged. They remember. “Was it not You who cut Rahab, who dried up the sea, who made a road through the depths”
They reach back to the Exodus, to when God moved in power and they ask, “Do it again”
This is honest, because this is what we do. When things feel dark, God feels distant, or when life does not make sense, we cry out.
Wake up. Act. Move. Not because God is asleep, but because we feel like He is.
And then God responds. “I, yes I, am the one who comforts you.” Personal. Present. Near.
Then He addresses what sits underneath it all. Fear. “Why are you afraid of mere humans…
who wither like grass?”
This exposes something in us. We fear what is temporary more than we trust what is eternal. We elevate people, pressure, systems, things that will not last. And we forget.
“You have forgotten the Lord your Maker…” Not rejected. Forgotten.
This is the human condition. We are so easily distracted. So easily lulled. And we lose focus.
Stay awake. Do not be drawn away by what surrounds you.
God reminds them again who He is. “I am the Lord your God…” The One who stirs the sea. The One whose arm brings salvation.
For My arm they wait. The salvation is coming. Trust.
“I have put My words in your mouth… I have covered you with the shadow of My hand… You are not exposed. You are not alone. You are not forgotten. He is still holding you.
This is the tension. We cry out as if He is distant. And He responds as One who has never moved.
So we come honestly. We cry out. But we also return. We remember. We trust again. Because the One we are calling to is already near.
And in that place… we stand. Quietly. Confidently. Trusting Him again.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You that You hear me when I cry out. Even when I do not understand, or when I feel uncertain, You are not distant from me.
Forgive me for the times I forget You, for the times I fear what is temporary more than I trust You who are eternal.
Help me to stay awake, to keep my focus on You, and not be drawn away by what surrounds me. Remind me again that You are near, that You are the One who comforts me,
and that Your power has not changed.
I choose to trust You again.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
