When God’s Voice Is Ignored, Fruit Disappears
January 5, 2026
Week 1 Focus, Why is trust even an issue?
“That is why the Holy Spirit says, ‘Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness.’” Hebrews 3:7–8
Isaiah warns of what happens when people reject God’s instruction, truth becomes blurred, hearts grow proud, and life begins to wither from the inside Isaiah 5:20-24.
Break It Down
Simple message. Pretty direct. Don’t miss this.
The danger isn’t only rebellion “out there.” It’s a heart that slowly becomes less responsive to God. Isaiah shows what that looks like when truth flips and God’s Word is treated lightly. Hebrews says, today, when you hear His voice, don’t harden your heart.
Trust Question
Who are you trusting here, and why, God’s voice today, or your own direction and pace?
God’s Intention
God wants your heart soft and alive. Not pressured, not condemned, not performing, but responsive. He speaks because He loves. And when we listen, trust grows. When we ignore Him, we don’t just “miss a moment,” we start drifting, and fruit begins to disappear.
Weave It In
This is why trust is even an issue, because hardening doesn’t happen all at once. It happens quietly, through busyness, distraction, impatience, or a habit of hearing and not responding.
So how do we avoid it?
We need daily bread, time with God. We need to ask Him to lead and guide the day ahead.
We need to “put on our daily armour.”
But mostly, we need space for relationship that includes listening. Prayer isn’t only where we speak and ask. Prayer is also where we stop long enough to hear.
You’ve heard people say, “Less of me Lord, and more of You.” That’s what this is about.
It’s easy to say those words. The real question is, will we create room for Him to speak? More time in His Word. Letting it soak in. Knowing it’s good for us. Finding studyhelps and tools that keep us moving forward, not perfectly, but faithfully.
And then, get active. Start somewhere. Pray, and let Him guide you forward. Don’t be impatient. Allow Him to train you. He’s growing you for a purpose and a reason.
Lean into that. Be open to what He is putting in front of you.
Practice for Today
A “soft heart” practice.
1) Read Hebrews 3:7–8 slowly.
2) Pray: “Holy Spirit, what are You saying to me today?”
3) Sit in silence for a few minutes.
4) Write one sentence: What do you sense?
5) Do one small obedience before the day ends.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, today when I hear Your voice, help me not to harden my heart. Give me hunger for Your Word and a listening spirit in prayer. Train me, shape me, and lead me one step at a time. Less of me, Lord, and more of You. Grow lasting fruit in my life as I learn to trust You daily. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
