The Promise That Has Been Growing
Feb 27
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder…”
This week has been about waiting for comfort and preparing for grace.
We have been reminded that waiting is not wasted, silence is not absence and hope forms before it is visible. Hearts are the ground that must be prepared.
And now we are shown why.
Isaiah 9:6 is a structural. Isaiah spoke these words into political instability and spiritual weariness. Kings were failing, alliances were fragile and the future was full of uncertainty.
And into that reality, God promised a Son.
“For to us a child is born…”
This promise did not appear suddenly. It had been growing. Through Abraham’s covenant and David’s throne. The exposure of weak leadership and the limits of the human heart.
Through the ache that Romans 7 named so honestly. We learned that waiting for comfort is not waiting for improved circumstances. It was and is waiting for a Person.
Preparing for grace then is not emotional readiness. It is recognising that God’s answer will come from outside of us.
The government will rest on His shoulder.
That means stability where we have seen instability. Authority without corruption. Wisdom without confusion. Peace that is not fragile.
This is why hope had to form before it spoke. Because when grace comes, it does not come as an idea. It comes embodied.
As we move toward Isaiah 40, comfort is about to be declared. But it is not detached comfort. It is rooted in this promise.
The child born. The Son given. The One who carries what we could not.
The promise has not been delayed, it has been developing. And we are about to see it unfold.
Selah.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for promises that grow long before we see their fulfillment. Thank You that You do not respond to human instability with temporary fixes, but with Your Son.
Strengthen my trust as I wait. Deepen my understanding of what You have been building across Scripture and across my life.
Prepare my heart to receive the comfort You are about to speak. Anchor my hope in the One who carries the government on His shoulders.
Help me to recognize that grace is more than an idea, He is a Person. And ready me to see Him more clearly.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
