It Is Finished

Easter Saturday - It Is Finished

These words speak of completion. Jesus fully accomplished everything the Father had given Him to do.

Passage: John 19:28–30

28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

“It is finished.” John 19:30

Reflection

“It is finished.” Three simple words, but they carry the weight of eternity.

These are not words of defeat, or of someone overcome. They are the words of completion.

Everything. Everything the Father had given Him to do, every step, every act of obedience, every moment leading to the cross, all of it has now been fulfilled. There is nothing left undone or incomplete.

What was promised long before, spoken through Scripture, carried through generations, and lived out in the life of Jesus… reaches its completion here.

“It is finished.” Jesus is not caught in these events or a victim of circumstance. He understands fully. He knows exactly what is happening. And in this moment, He declares that the work is complete.

The price has been paid. The way has been made. The purpose has been fulfilled.

And now… Saturday. The quiet. The stillness. The space where it looks like nothing is happening. But everything that needed to be done…

has been done.

There is a kind of holy rest here, because everything has been accomplished. “It is finished.”

Application

Sit in the stillness today.

Where am I striving as though something is still unfinished?

Can I trust that Jesus has completed what I could never complete myself?

Let today be a day of quiet trust.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Thank You that You finished what You came to do. Thank You that nothing was left undone.

Help me to trust in Your completed work, and not live as though I need to add to it. Teach me to rest in what You have accomplished.

In the quiet, help me to trust You.

In your holy name I pray, Amen.
